| West Nepal hit hard by flood and landslide, toll reach 50 | |
Kathmandu The death toll in the landslide triggered by incessant rain in Nepal's western districts over the past two days has reached 50, officials said today. Kapilvastu, Accham, Dadeldhura, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Doti and Baidadi were the most affected districts where thousands of people have been rendered homeless over the past two days, according to officials. Police recovered four of the 12 bodies which were buried by landslide at Mastamandu in Dadeldhura district, state run Nepal Television reported. Army and police have been mobilised for rescue operations in the areas hit by the natural disaster.The government has provided Rs 150 million as immediate relief for flood and landslide hit areas, officials said. Meanwhile, 22 army personnel deployed in the Bardiya National Park in mid-west Nepal, who were untraceable for a couple of hours today have been contacted and were safe, Nepal Army Headquarters said. A helicopter has been mobilised to rescue people affected by the flood in the western districts. Transport services, which were halted due to landslide, have resumed today at the Prithvi Highway. |
