MOU signed for mega paper project

Guwahati, Feb 9 (PTI) An MOU was today signed with a Kolkata based major paper company for setting up a mega pulp and paper manufacturing unit in Assam.

The MOU was signed between the Assam Industrial Development Corporation and the Kohinoor Pulp and Paper Company in presence of the Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi and Industry Minister, Pradyut Bordoloi.

The Kolkata based company will set up a mega greenfield pulp and paper manufacturing unit at the industrial growth centre at Matia in lower Assam's Goalpara district with a capital investment of Rs 1,500 crore and production of 200,000 MT per annum of writing and printing paper through a completely environment friendly process.

The unit envisages employing 1,100 people directly and providing livelihood to more than 50,000 people indirectly and is expected to be commissioned by December 2012.

Speaking on the occasion Gogoi said the state had shed the tag of being a"unsafe destination"for investors as law and order situation had improved and more and more industrialists were coming forward.

He said that industrialist Ratan Tata is scheduled to visit the state next month to explore possibilities of settting up mega projects in the state. PTI SB PR PR
