Delhi (09 February ,2010),(PTI).

New Delhi, Under attack for his remarks on the Batla house encounter, Congress leader Digvijay Singh today met party chief Sonia Gandhi and gave a report on his visit to Azamgarh where he had raised doubts over the incident.

Singh, from whose controversial remarks his party had distanced itself, made a fresh demand for setting up of a special court to try related cases.

"I have submitted the report to the party President. She has assured me to look into the matter," Singh told reporters after meeting Gandhi.

The AICC General Secretary in-charge of UP said he had never demanded an enquiry into the Batla house encounter.

Singh, who had recently visited Azamgarh, said yesterday that setting up of a special court and speedy trial of the terror accused should not be seen in the context of minorityism or appeasement.During his visit, Singh had raised doubts about the Batla house encounter.

Singh had also dismissed suggestions that he had gone to Azamgarh on his own."I had discussed it with Rahul Gandhi and the Congress President was aware of it," he said.
