CCIC plans to make it big at C'wealth Games

New Delhi, Feb 8 (PTI) The Central Cottage Industries Corporation plans to showcase the country&aposs rich reservoir of handloom and handicraft products to the sportspersons and thousands of other visitors from about 71 countries during the Commonwealth Games to be held here in October.

The Central government-owned Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India (CCIC), which runs many emporia housing handicrafts and handloom products, is planning to set up an outlet at the Commonwealth Games Village.

"We want to put up our showroom at the Commonwealth Games Village,"CCIC managing director MA Ibrahimi said on the sidelines of an exhibition here today.

The&aposcottage emporium&aposwould develop quality handloom and handicrafts products, fabrics and ready-to-wear items with Commonwealth Games as theme. Besides, it would formulate marketing strategies for promotion of its products.

India has a rich heritage of handcrafted items and handloom products like decorative items, hand-woven garments, ceramics and leather accessories.

Ibrahimi said CCIC has its emporia in five cities-- New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore--and franchisee showrooms in Gurgaon and Patna.

It has a francisee arrangement in Denmark and would expand in the US, Europe and the Middle East."We are planning to expand our franchises both within the country and outside.
