33 rescued after flash floods in Chenab river

Jammu, Trapped for over 20 hours in the flash floods in river Chenab, 33 persons, including 10 truck drivers, were today rescued in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, a police officer said.

The rescue operation was carried out by army, police and Salal Hydro-electric power project authorities this morning, he said, adding the 10 stuck lorries would be retrieved when water recedes.

The trucks had gone to load sand from the river bed in Kari Patta area, 80 kms from here, yesterday, when heavy rains triggered the flash floods.
