New Delhi, Oct 11 The"cash-starved" Delhi Government is roping in private players to construct and maintain old-age homes on a Public-Private Partnership mode across the national capital.
"The aim is to provide better facilities to the senior citizens in such homes as well as reduce financial burden on the cash-starved government."The firms can earn profit as they will be allowed to undertake commercial activities at such sites as permitted under the
Master Plan 2021,"an official of the
Delhi Social Welfare Department said."The interested private players will be asked to collaborate with voluntary organisations working in the area to run the homes efficiently,"he added.
The land would be handed over to corporates on a nominal lease basis. The government has already issued expression of interest to develop, operate and maintain such homes."
Sites at
Rohini Sec IV,
Kanti Nagar and
Janakpuri in
West Delhi are vacant and the interested private player would be required to construct new old age homes there."Similarly, at
Tilak Vihar where an old age home exists, the private player would be required to demolish it and construct a new one,"the official added.
The site at
Bindapur in
West Delhi houses a newly-built complex for old age home and the private players would be required to undertake only operations and maintenance there, he said.
