Kathmandu, Sep 29 (PTI) Thirteen prisoners escaped from a district prison in Nepal after overpowering guards on duty, but police managed to nab three of them today.

The prisoners fled the Kanchanpur jail yesterday after taking control of the police constables on duty with two pistols and a 303 riffle, local media reports said.

However, police arrested three of the inmates -- Kamal Chaudhary, Ram Bahadur Chand and Karan Nath --- from two different places today. They also recovered a pistol from Chaudhary, the reports said.

The prisoners have been convicted of murder, rape and theft.

Acting swiftly, Nepal government today constituted a three member committee headed by joint secretary (Home Ministry) Shanker Koirala to probe the incident.

The team has been given 15 days to submit its report.

The search for other 10 prisoners is on, police said.

Meanwhile, four policemen were injured in a crossfire between police and an armed group in Shivanagar of Rautahat district today.
