In Aminabad, Muslim women enjoy Iftar prepared by Hindus

Lucknow, Sept 16 (PTI) Hundreds of women rozedars, who gather at the busy Aminabad area here for an all-women special namaz, end their fast with delicacies prepared by Hindus.

In a unique event at the historical&aposzanana (female) park&apos, Muslim women gather for the&aposSalatut Tasbeeh&aposnamaz , held annually under the aegis of Bazm-e-khawateen.

The namaz is followed by Iftar, which is monitored by Hindu members of the Bazm.

"At a time when grand feasts are organised by various organisations and political parties all through Ramzan, the one at the Zanana park is different as our Hindu sisters prepare for the feast at home and bring food for us,"says president of the Bazm-e-khawateen, Begum Shahnaz Sidrat.

Sidrat says the overall arrangement for the namaz is made by the Hindu members of Bazm, a 75-year-old body set up in 1934 by Congress leaders Sheela Kaul and Begum Sultana Hayat.

Led by alima (female ulema) Rabia Bushra, the women offer"Tasbeen-ki-namaz"whose recitation is considered to be auspicious in the holy month of Ramzan as it was recommended by Prophet Mohammad to his uncle Hazrat Abbas, she says.

Terming the congregation of the all-women namazis in the park as the only one of its kind in the country, Sidrat says that the Bazm will organise an"eid milan"for its women members belonging to all faiths a day after Id-ul-fitr.
