'Raksha Bandhan' rush makes DMRC richer by Rs 1 cr

New Delhi, Aug 5 (PTI) With Delhi Metro running extra trains today on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, over seven lakh people opted the new age transport system till evening generating a revenue of Rs one crore for the DMRC.

About 7.36 lakh people travelled on the Delhi Metro till 8 pm on all three lines of the transport system thus generating a revenue of Rs 1 crore.

DMRC officials said the ridership would go high as the number of people travelling would be higher after 8 pm."We expect to generate more revenue today on Raksha Bandhan. The rush is mostly on the long-distance routes,"they said.

The officials said since people go back their homes after meeting their relatives late in the evening"we expect more ridership and revenue."

The stations which witnessed the heaviest rush were Yamuna Bank, Rajiv Chowk, Jahangirpuri, Shahdara, Seelampur, Dilshad Garden, Dwarka Mor and Uttam Nagar (East).

The DMRC yesterday recorded the highest ridership of almost 10 lakh passengers on a single day. The number of commuters stood at 9.92 lakh while the revenue was Rs 1.24 crore

On Monday, the ridership stood at 9.26 lakh and the revenue Rs 1.25 crore, the highest earning so far since the Metro became operational on December 25, 2002.

Delhi Metro was running 60 extra train trips and had deployed additional personnel to cater to passengers on Raksha Bandhan.
