New Delhi, The main civic agency of the national capital has relocated and rehabilitated a total of 7,351 slum dweller families in various parts of the city over the last three years, spending an amount of Rs 26 crore.

The Slum and JJ Department of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is providing developed plots to eligible'jhuggi-jhonpri'(JJ) residents under the relocation policy.During the last three years, 7,351 jhuggi dweller families have been rehabilitated in resettlement sites in Savda Ghevra, Bawana and Narela in north-west and outer Delhi, officials said.

Of these, 6,382 families were shifted to Savda Ghevra and Narela in 2006-07, from areas like eastern Yamuna Pushta, Shahdara, Jhilmil, Timarpur and Tagore Garden, they said.

In 2007-08, 555 families were relocated from slum clusters in Nizamuddin, Naraina, Karkardooma and Zakhira to Savda Ghevra and Bawana while in 2008-09, 414 families were rehabilitated from slum clusters in National Highway-24 and Humayun Road, among other areas.

The MCD has spent Rs 26.18 crore in relocation and has also paid Rs 14.15 crore to DDA as cost of land in 2007-08.
