Goa will host 2013 Lusofonio Games: IOA

New Delhi, Jul 14 (PTI) Goa was today alloted the fourth edition of the Lusofonio Games to be staged in 2013, Indian Olympic Association announced here today.

The multi-disciplinary Games, played among countries having Portuguese community, will have only Goa team participating from India as per the rule.

The second edition of the Games, which is currently being hosted in Lisbon, has 70 events in 10 sports.

The third edition of the biennial event will be held in 2011 in Brazil.

"It is a major boost for India because it shows that India has a reputation that it can host a major multi-sport event,"IOA General Secretary Randhir Singh told PTI.

"I congratulate the Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat, who is also the president of the Swimming Federation of India. I am also greeting the delegations,"he said.

The inaugural Games was held in Macau, China in 2006.

Goa will also host the National Games after Jharkhand and Kerala in 2011.
