Lakhimpur Kheri, Jul 11 (PTI) In a joint operation, the Sashatra Sima Bal (SSB) and north Kheri forest officials today nabbed a notorious poacher from Tikonia kotwali area of the district, near the Indo-Nepal border.

Jabir Khan was arrested from Danga village in a surprise raid last night and antlers (branched-horns) of protected swamp deer were also recovered from his house, Assistant Commandant, SSB, Bela Parus Parag Chaturvedi said.

The poacher had stolen the antlers a fortnight ago after killing a swamp deer in neighbouring Dudhwa national park, officials said.

District conservator of forest, north Kheri division Kartik Kumar Singh told PTI that"Jabir, who was absconding for the last two years was involved in several attacks on the forest officials".

He added that Jabir attacked upon Dudhwa park officials recently and was also involved in the 2006 sensational attack, in which nearly half a dozen forest officials had been injured.
