Govt plans to give reservation to Marathas

Jalna, Feb 14 Chief Minister Ashok Chavan today said that the State government is planning to give reservation to the Maratha community.

Speaking at&apos Jan-Jagrukta Abhiyan&aposat Mama Chowk, he said the government has asked the Bapat Commission to review the economic, employment and educational opportunities available to the Marathas and give suggestions on providing reservation to them.

The Chief Minister, however said that the quotas given to the OBCs, SCs and others will not be disturbed.

He also criticised the leaders, who are doing politics in the name of reservation.

On development of minority communities, Chavan said Maharashtra is the first state which implemented the Sachchar Committee report.

The State government has carved separate welfare department for the minorities and allotted it Rs 127 crore.

Social Justice Minister Chandrakant Handore and MPCC president Manikrao Thakre were also present on the occasion.
